July Fishing Sessions: 07/03 - Multi-Species Fishing at the Newton Lake & Newton Creek (Collingswood, NJ)

Hello, Blog Readers!

Today I'm bringing you fellas my fishing session for July 3rd:

--- July 3rd, 2015 ---

Location: Newton Lake, Newton Creek (Collingswood, NJ)
Time: 12:00-6:00 p.m.

Fishes caught:

-- 15 Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus)
-- 1 Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus)
-- 3 Redbreast Sunfish (Lepomis auritus)
-- 1 Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides)

Video:

Below are the highlights for this fishing session:

The video above is divided in four parts: (1) Introduction (0:00-1:23); (2) Setup (1:24-2:38); (3) Fishing Newton Lake (2:39-5:50); and (4) Fishing Newton Creek (5:51-7:15). Don't forget to watch it in HD Quality (1080p50)! If you enjoy watching my videos, please support my YouTube Channel by liking and subscribing. :)

Goal:

The original goal for the day was to catch the elusive Northern Snakehead (Channa argus); however, soon my father and I changed our goals to Multi-Species fishing.

Setup:

Throughout the course of the day, I used the following types of rigs/baits/lures: (1) A Booyah Pad Crasher frog; (2) a 1/64 oz. Trout Magnet Jighead with a 1" Gulp! Alive Minnow (sometimes under a weighted float); and (3) a size #6 Eagle Claw hook with a Trout Magnet and sometimes pieces of nightcrawler.

Summary:

Once again, my father and I went to Newton Lake for the elusive Northern Snakehead fish! I have caught plenty of them in the past; however, my father never landed one. Thus, the main objective of the day was for him to successfully land a Snakie!

Despite what common folks think, the Northern Snakehead does not eat anything that comes in front of its face. It also doesn't walk on land nor it will deplete fish populations, blah blah blah. Concluding, there are a lot of misconceptions out there! Therefore, I would recommend all readers to read my post on Northern Snakeheads for the extra knowledge.

We started the day looking for them, but we soon realized that the Snakehead bite was dead (they are very picky about their meal timings). So, we switched gears and went Multi-Species. Hah. We caught a bunch of different Species from the Newton Lake, including Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Black Crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus). We did try to land a couple Largemouth Bass, but we did not succeed.

After a good while of fishing, we were hungry and dehydrated (it was hot, folks!). Thankfully, there was a McDonalds very close to us! We ate a couple burgers and drank a lot of water. Then, we decided to hit the Newton Creek, which was located right next to it. We ended up landing another set of different Species, including Redbreast Sunfish, Green Sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus), and Largemouth Bass.
Overall, a very productive day for Multi-Species!
